## Quai de Caligny, Cherbourg-en-Cotentin
In 1774, the Quai de Caligny in Cherbourg was constructed as the "quai de l'Avant-port," serving as the western boundary of the harbour's entrance. In 1865, it was renamed to honour Louis Roland Hüe de Caligny, the engineer behind Cherbourg's first commercial port and its structural developments. (wikimanche.fr) By the early 20th century, the quay was a bustling hub, with steamers departing for the Channel Islands. In 1965, the original cobblestones were replaced, and in 1994, the quay was illuminated with unique lighting designed by Yann Kersalé, featuring masts that change colour with the tides.
